Newborn Sessions

Do you offer a “Baby’s First Year” plan?

I sure do! I have the Watch Me Grow plan and the Bump & Babe’s First Year plan. Please inquire for more information on these packages!

Can we bring grandparents, aunts/uncles /cousins to the session?

For Newborn Sessions:  My studio is very small, and due to the limited space and warmth in the studio (80 degrees for baby’s comfort) I ask that you limit additional guests at the session. Family/Sibling shots will be done at the beginning and then I ask that Dad or a family member/friend leave with the older siblings for the remainder of the session so baby is not disturbed.

How do I prepare for my newborn session?

Newborn session clients will receive a detailed prep guide to help you plan and prepare before your session. I will also send you a link to fill out a brief questionnaire to help me prepare and tailor your session just for you!

Do you have all the props for my newborn session?

Absolutely! I have tons of hats, headbands/tiebacks, rompers, cute little pants, wraps, baskets, and other props for your session. I have everything we need, unless you would like to bring in something special.

When do we schedule the newborn session?

When you book your newborn session, I leave availability around your estimated due date. After your new little squish is born, it is important that you contact me within 48-72 hours after the birth so we can schedule the actual session date and time. The session will take place within the first 14-16 days of your little one’s new life.

General FAQs

When should I book my session?

I take a very limited amount of sessions each month, so read below to know when to contact me to book and ensure I have openings.

Newborns: Please book your newborn session before your baby is born. Typically, newborn sessions are booked in the 2nd trimester. However, if your baby is already born, please contact me because I may have an opening available.  Newborn sessions are best done within the first 14-16 days of fresh, new, squishy baby life!

Maternity: I like to photograph my pregnant mamas between 29-34 weeks gestation. Please contact me well in advance so we can schedule your maternity session within that window.

All other sessions: Since I take a limited amount of sessions each month, please contact me early on in your planning process to ensure availability.

What is the best way to contact you?

Email is definitely the best way to get in touch with me. Just click on the “contact” tab, or email me at hello@letsfindjoy.com. I am quick to respond to emails, and you will get a response to your questions ASAP. You are welcome to call or text me, however, please keep all calls/texts between 9am-5pm on Monday-Saturdays.  Evenings and Sundays are reserved for my family, so I do not answer calls/texts/emails outside of those hours – unless you are messaging me to tell me your baby is here! 🙂

Why do outdoor sessions take place in the evening?

The best light for the best images possible will take place about an hour or two before sunset. This provides that golden + warm look you see in a lot of my outdoor sessions. If the sun sets at 8:00pm, your session will generally take place at 6:30 to give you that beautiful glow that takes place during the “golden hour.” It is SO worth it!

What do I wear for my session?

All of my clients will receive styling guidance from me to ensure a cohesive look for your session and the specific location.

Maternity and Milestone (Tummy, Sitter, Cake Smash sessions) clients will have access to my client closet full of maternity gowns, baby outfits and accessories, diaper covers/bloomers to choose from and wear for the session.

I will also provide guidance for other personal clothing items you may want to utilize and consult with you on what the entire family should wear for the session. I have lookbooks that you will gain access to for each type of session to help give visual ideas.

Where will my session take place?

Newborn sessions will always take place in my studio, unless you are scheduling a newborn lifestyle session. For all other sessions not in the studio, I have a few favorite locations I use for sessions. Exact location planning will take place after your session is officially booked! If you do know of a location, I’m happy to hear about it and I’ll want to make sure it will create a suitable backdrop for the session.

Where is your studio located?

Though the studio has a Birmingham address, it is more in the Trussville area. I have a cute and cozy in-home studio located in the downstairs area of our home. In person visits to the studio are by appointment only.

Do you travel for sessions?

Yes! There is a travel fee of $1 per mile for distances over 50 miles from my studio.

What types of payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash and credit card payments securely through Square

May we take pictures at our session?

No videos, phone pictures, or professional DSLR’s are permitted during any session.

Can we copy poses and photos I saw on Pinterest?

I LOVE Pinterest too! And I absolutely love to hear your input, but please keep in mind that the photos you see on my website, Instagram, and Facebook are a representation of my particular style, and most of your session will tend to reflect that look. Pinterest is great to use as a source of inspiration and to find a photographer that matches the style you are drawn to.

How do I book?

Yay! I can’t wait to work with you! Shoot me a message here and we’ll get started on booking your session. A paid non-refundable retainer fee for your particular session and a signed/submitted contract are required to officially book your session. The session date is not booked until both of these requirements have been met. So contact me as soon as possible so we can get it locked and reserved!

When and how will I get my photos?

After your session has taken place, you will return to the studio to view your gallery approximately 2-3 weeks after the session. At this “reveal & ordering” session, you will see your images on a custom slideshow set to music that will make your heart melt! We’ll have snacks and you will get to choose which images and products you would like to purchase.

After choosing your images, final edits will be made to your images within 1 week. Any digitals purchased will either be given via a custom USB or a custom downloadable online gallery. Any purchased products can take up to 3 weeks to be processed and shipped to me, after which I hand deliver the goodies to you.

Can I order prints or canvases through you?

Yes! I strongly believe in the power and treasure of prints and products and have access to a carefully curated line of professional quality prints, canvases, albums, acrylic blocks, and more that are available only to professional photographers and are guaranteed archival quality. I love helping my clients choose what products to purchase and help them design the layout and placement area in their home. I also hand deliver any products purchased!

How much does a session cost?

The session retainer fees can be found on the pricing page here. All session retainer fees are non refundable and digitals + products are extra. Digital Collections start at $295. I also have a couple of all inclusive package options (digitals included in price) such as a Fresh 48 Hospital Lifestyle Session ($350), the Watch Me Grow (baby plan) package ($1495), Bump and Babe’s First Year ($1795). Inquire for more information on what is included in these packages and for a full product pricing guide. All packages including digitals are subject to the applicable sales tax

I just need a few images. Do you offer mini sessions?

I’m a firm believer that photography should not be a rushed experience.  Photography is a luxury and should feel like a luxurious experience. I love to cater to my clients and create a lasting memory with images you’ll cherish for many years! For these reasons, I don’t offer mini-sessions. I do have my pricing set up so that there is no minimum purchase required outside of the session retainer fee so that you can purchase what you truly want.

However, I do offer special events from time to time, and the best way to find out about those is by signing up for our newsletter.
